Advice To Help You Learn How To Play The Piano

By Essie Osborn

Some people are naturally gifted and pick up how to play instruments fairly quickly. For a lot of other people it can take time. It can be frustrating, especially for younger children. This is why it is important to look at your approach when learning how to play the piano.

With children focus is often the issue. There is often the issue of how much pressure to put on children. On the one hand you do not want to force them to do something they do not enjoy and can make them feel miserable. There are a wide array of hobbies and interests and it is better to find something they are passionate about.

With adults there is the issue of time. People often complain that they do not have time in their schedule. The fact is if you are committed you can often find an hour in your day to practise. It does not matter if this is fifteen minutes here or there throughout the day. What you may find is once you get started you will do more than your allocated time!

As well as learning the instrument itself you should also consider the tone of what you are playing. It is easy to forget this as you learn the mechanics of what you are playing. Often this is the thing that can put people off playing. Sometimes you need to put down the instrument and listen to what is being played in order to get an idea of the emotion of what you are playing.

Another thing is to pay attention. While some people learn by ear a lot of others learn by reading music. The best way to learn how to read music is to treat it as reading prose and to pay attention to the notes and the gaps between the notes. In this way it is almost as if the music forms sentences. This will then make it easier to notice mistakes and correct them.

Admittedly even with tracks you love it can be difficult over time. One of the best ways is to stop playing for a while and listen to a track. While the mechanics of learning a tune is important you should also be able to listen to the emotion behind a song in order to be able to capture that while you play.

Reading music is like reading a book. You need to look at the notes and the gaps between them as a sentence. Over time this will make it easier. Some people often count notes in time signatures as it makes it easier for them to keep in time. After a while people stop counting out loud and find it easier to count in their head.

When learning how to play an instrument it is best to get the right tutor. You can find a number of tutors online. Remember to meet them in person to discuss how quickly you want to learn and find out more about their background. It is also worth looking online for video tutorials as this will help you between lessons to develop your skills. With the right approach and resources you will be able to get the most from your instrument.
