Things To Remember On How To Hold A Violin Properly

By Beryl Dalton

Unless you have the passion to do something, you will soon find that thing boring and not worth your time. It is ones passion that fuels energy to continually learn and produce something related to the craft. This is why we hear academics and experts comment about the importance of this factor in success.

It does not matter what your passion is. If you love food, then you can always learn how to cook. Same goes for music. If you feel a certain attachment to it, then you surely wouldnt mind spending some time learning an instrument. Among the most common questions asked online is how to hold a violin properly. The popularity of this instrument has grown and now, more and more people across all ages are learning it. If you have the same interest, then browse through this short list of basic things you should know on how to hold it right.

Posture is a primary concern. Regardless of what instrument, there is a certain posture that you need to follow. Doing so will make it easier for you to play and will prevent the discomfort that you will feel especially if it is your first time playing it. You can play the violin either by sitting down or standing up. Whatever your position, you need to be sure that you have your back straight and your feet flat on the ground.

Rest the violin on your collarbone and support it with your left shoulder and left hand. The broader end of the violin should be rested on collarbone. Your shoulder need not to be so stiff that you will have difficult moving. Left hand needs to support the other end of the instrument, giving way to balance.

Angle your head right so that your chin secures the violin in place. It is expected that you will be moving from time to time. In this case, you will have need to ensure that the instrument does not move away from its secure position. Right angling of your head and positioning of your chin is a necessity to keep it in place.

Observe proper hand positioning. Now this is one of the most important given that playing this instrument relies mainly on the right position of your fingers. Just like playing the guitar, the right positioning of fingers is necessary to produce sounds. Once you start studying on how to read notes and to actually play it, you will have a better understanding on the importance of the right positioning.

Fifth, balance your wrist and fingers. If you do not position your wrist, you will most likely find a hard time maneuvering your fingers as well. They are connected after all. Position your wrist in a way that will encourage flexibility and will make the gripping of strings easier.

Practice. The reason why people do not really learn in the end is their lack of consistency. Deciding to study violin should be coupled with commitment for you to see some results. Also, practicing does not only happen within a day or two, weeks or a month. You will have to learn a lot of things and you can practice as many times as you want. Those who are really great on their craft are those who does it everyday.

Be honest with yourself and know what your passion is. For some it will come easy. For others it needs more time of meditation. Once you realize it, be ready to act on it.
