Six Things To Remember When Making Felted Vessels

By Lelia Hall

Arts and crafts are fun activities to do in one's spare time. However, there are times when things do not turn out the way it was intended even when making items such as felted vessels. This article will provide six things to keep in mind when making such items, so that the most can be made out of the experience of crafting.

The amount of time that one has should be taken into consideration when doing felting. If a person does not have enough time and decides to do this type of work, things might not turn out the way they want it to. So setting aside as much time as needed is very important so that one will not feel they need to hurry to get things done.

In addition to having enough time to work, one should also clear the space they want to use to do their craft. This is especially true when using a method called wet felting. This method uses lots of water and some liquid soap to help the wool fasten together. Having too many things on a working space can create accidents and spills on things that one might not want to get wet.

The right type of resist is also important in creating vessels made of felt. Resists are flat or three dimensional objects that are used to create felted shapes without seams. This is one of the materials that are used in making wool bowls and other 3D objects. On the other hand, this all depends on what one decides to create.

If a person has all of the materials they need, it will not be necessary to constantly move back and forth when making their art. One should have everything they need in place before starting to work. In this way, the work will go more efficiently and successfully. This also helps to make better use of one's time.

Comfort is also important when working on an art project that will take a long time. So make sure that the lighting is good enough so that everything can be seen clearly. The temperature of the room should be comfortable enough to work in as well, so it should not be too hot or too cold. Some people like to add extra touches to their working area like burning incense or lighting special candles to make things a little more pleasant.

Another thing to be aware of is the type of clothing that one is wearing at the time. Any type of jewelry that can snag the plastic or other material that will be used should be removed. Some people wear an apron when using the wet technique to protect their clothing.

Another tip to keep in mind is that one needs to just have fun with their work. Sometimes things might not always turn out as plan due to a number of reasons that one is not prepared for. At the same time, a person can do all the right things and still not achieve what they desire. This does not mean that one has failed, it is simply the way art is created.
