A dog breeder is a person who mates dogs deliberately in order to produce a desired breed. The practice of mating dogs by the owner is called dog breeding. It involves a lot of knowledge on genetics. This enables the dog breeder to achieve specific traits and qualities in the puppies produced. The reproduced dogs usually have specific uses intended for by the owner. Knowing about breeders is better before considering a Cavachon puppy for sale.

Dogs have for a long time been known to be the best friend to man. They have been domesticated and have proved to be useful in the life of a human being. These animals have been categorized unto several types . They include sighthounds, hunting dogs, dogs that guard livestock, and police dogs among others. Their shape, size and behavior are influenced by the different dog breeding practices.

There are two ways of breeding a dog, that is, artificial and natural way. One of the traditional methods used in breeding is the natural way. This is because of the insecurity felt by a dog when it is outside its familiar environment. Breeding without distraction should be done in a private place. Owners act as handlers too. Patience is required because the dogs need to familiarize themselves with each other and this may take days or even hours for the whole process to complete.

In recent times breeding has been improved and there is the introduction special equipment used and technology in the job. The commonest method implied in the breeding is Artificial insemination. In this method the male dog is not involved only the female and the veterinarian are present. This method is considered as it is safe, healthy and a variety of breeds are produced.

The appropriate time for breeding is during the fourth cycle of heat. The first heat period comes when the female dog is within the range of 6 and 9 months. This is dependent of factors such as breed and health. Male dogs breed when they are 18 months old. The gestation period of a female dog ranges from 60 to 65 days after conception. The pups can be seen by the use of radiations such as X-rays.

During the sale of the puppies an owner is supposed to select a responsible buyer who is to take care of the pups. In some cases interrogations about the background of the buyers is important to check if he has children or other types of pets in their homes.

One should also be aware of the regulations set in place for taking care of a dog. Contracts are usually signed for the new owner to return the dog to the previous owner should they fail to take good care of the dog no matter its age. Most countries have kennel clubs or associations that deal with proper care of dogs and the breeds produced.

Dog breeders face a number of challenges. Some dogs may have particular inheritable undesired characteristics. They may develop to a disease or worse still a disability for example hip dysplasia. Artificial methods when overused may cause detrimental side effects and hence natural methods are recommended. Inbreeding depression is another effect. It is caused by reduced survival of the offsprings of related dogs.
