If you have is a child who about to celebrate a milestone birthday, you want the day to be special. Tiny children are content to dive into cake and ice cream. Older kids are too cool for these kinds of events anyway. There are a lot of interesting places in Atlanta that are great for kids. The aquarium is one of them. Your little guests will be happy to leave their electronics behind once they see the fascinating aquatic life that calls this place home. They will get up close and personal with man eating sharks and docile dolphins. Guides can entertain with graphic, but age appropriate, tales of poisonous rays and electric shocks.

Along the same vein, is a visit to the natural history museum. Atlanta has a great one in Fernbank. On the face of it, you might be afraid the youngsters will see it as too educational, but you, and they, will be pleasantly surprised. There are all kinds of bones and other fossils to be pointed out.

You don't have to break the bank to give a memorable party. You can invite Santa instead. It doesn't matter the time of year, you can simply explain that Santa agreed to take a break to come and surprise the star of the party. Decorating an artificial tree inside the house or an living outside will create a festive atmosphere. Little guests can deposit their gifts under it. Cupcakes and hot cocoa, instead of cake, will complete the picture.

If you don't want to clean up an after party mess you can take everybody on an outing to a go kart racetrack. Most towns have some version of them, either included with a miniature golf course or at a theme park. Kids are fascinated with driving cars and love to go as fast as they can. This is an excursion that can last as long as you can stand it.

If you want to splurge, you can consider buying out the local theater one afternoon and treat the youngsters to a private screening of an anticipated movie. You might be able to get the theater staff to throw a happy birthday wish up on the screen before the main event. This kind of celebration will probably set you back at least five hundred dollars just for renting out the space.

A pet party is a lot of fun for youngsters, and can be a great idea as long as you control it. Most kids love their pets and will be excited to take them along. This is probably not the best idea when you are planning on inviting a big group. You might want to set some parameters when it comes to pets as well.

Most children love birthdays and parties. Instead of the usual bouncy houses, clowns, and face painting, you should try and come up with something unexpected and creative. You don't have to spend a fortune or go high tech to do it either.
