The Key Roles Of Concert Promoter

By Patrick Perry

Concerts are a fine way to give a live performance to an audience. These can be arranged in different ways and different settings. They provide the opportunity to showcase what you have to your target audience. It is an opportunity that must be well utilized. The support of a concert promoter is very handy when it comes to the success of a concert. A lot goes in the preparations and it is only sensible that the concert is well attended.

What then are the key roles that make the promoter critical? As a start, it is the duty of such a professional is to make known the upcoming event. The promoter will design all the requisite material to be used and distribute the same so that information is spread. They may use printed media or the internet to do their promotions. They are in charge of drafting the marketing plans that will be used for the event they are promoting.

Music promoter must first of all be a lover of music. They need to have the passion for music and be a fan of the performer. That will make their promotion passionate. They want to show the public that the performance will be one of a kind and they must not miss it. The enthusiasm in promoting the performance comes with love for music. They also must support the artist so that he concentrates on his performance preparation.

They will need to take charge of the venue bookings, arrangement or set up. This may mean making several visits and discussions with the owners of the venue. They in effect would promote both the venue and the performance. They need to understand what goes into this planning so that they stay on top of all arrangements.

To execute their role, they need some key skills to guide them. Basically, a business training background is essential. Business training will equip them with the negotiation and contract skills that are used. They also need to have business communication skills. They will be drawing contracts with the artists, venues and hotels; they must know what it takes.

They, however, must also have people skills. They cannot run the show on their own. They need to consult with the artists to have a picture of what they desire. They plan the show not how they want it but how the entertainer would want the show to be. So, the first step is to discuss with the invited artists and get their picture right.

When a concert fails, the blame is put on the promoter and not the artist. Consider why. Promoters technically handle all the logistics. He identifies the best venue, suggests best timing and markets the whole event. He only consults with the artist on a few issues like dates. If anything goes wrong, they will be held accountable.

They are accountable in all aspects. If the venue is well organized but the artist gives a poor performance, they are still to blame. It is their job to facilitate the artist to the venue of the performance. They handle his logistics like travel and hotel. They oversee sound checks and also determine how long the performer will perform. Overall, they run the show.
