By William Thomas

Cultural practices hold people from the same region and origin together. Festivals are held to mark important events that used to take part in the past. The occasions are an excellent way of interacting and learning. If you love watching dances and way of life of people from various areas, it is important you attend such parties. Whether you are a veteran or novice attending such events, you need to have certain behaviors when in the arena or on the grounds. Customs are likely to vary with tribes and beliefs of a group. Breaching etiquette is considered as a disrespectful act. In some instance, you can even be removed from the showground. This article looks at tips that will ensure you behave appropriately during pow wows 2019.

You ought to dress right for the occasion. Check pictures of how gents and ladies dress during the party. Avoid skinny dresses and provocative skirts. Hats, swimsuits, and t-shirts with funny logos and writings are discouraged. Carry a shawl to cover your shoulders especially during the sacred activities like prayers. Choose colorful clothing to fit the occasion.

Master of ceremonies and announces are in charge of function. They give directions on what to do at a particular time. They will direct you on where to sit when to take photos, and time to dance. Foreigners should still attend the party because interpreters will help you understand what is being said in case, they are using the native language.

Those who are new to the event must follow what the other people are doing. It will be annoying if you keep asking your seatmate about the event. If they stand, do the same and clap when the crowd starts to clap in an appraisal. The announcers are also out there to give instructions and orders. Take care of your children and let them stand when the audience stands.

Know where to sit for you to have a clear view of the events taking place during the day. Remember that there are seats that have been reserved for special guests, singers, drummers, and dancers. They will usually label these areas to avoid confusion. The grounds you are stepping on is blessed and sacred.

Avoid making a negative comment or contemplating a negative thought. The performed blessings set the event tone and sanctify the grounds. Spiritual nature of the blessing should be taken seriously even if it is not open to the public. You need to remain positive throughout the singing and dancing sessions.

Do not bring firearms, drugs, or alcohol to a pow wow. Tobacco is allowed as it can be used as gifts or blessings. Smoking is disrespectful. Be sure to follow the right protocol and your common sense when taking photos. Never shoot pictures during gourd dances, flag songs, or prayers.

Dancers and other participants are out there to make money. Respect their job always. Ask for permission from an individual you want to be part of your picture. Some do not allow pictures for fear that someone might steal their designs.
