Key Points On How To Make Paper Beads

By Matthew Bennett

Turning junk mainly, magazines, calendars and brochures into decors is a very great project. Before throwing away your junk papers, you might consider recycling them into something useful. Below are some steps on how to make paper beads out of your favorite colored pieces of paper.

Step one is to cut triangles out of colored magazines, newspapers or construction papers using a pair of scissors or a craft knife. The triangles should be long. One can use a paper template to guide him or her in the cutting. The width of a bead is usually the base of the triangle. You then draw on each cut-out your design using pens, pencils or markers. Your design should be focused on the outermost edges and the paper tips since they are the only ones which can be visible. You then add a bit of glue to the sharp end.

Second, place your dowel at the base of the triangle and roll it round itself, starting with the broadest end, until the glued point is wrapped around the dowel. Roll the strip evenly if you want to achieve proportion so that the pointed end is at the center. Use your finger to extend the glue on the bead. This ensures it is more stud, shiny and held together.

The third step involves gluing the aforesaid rolled piece of paper on the apex. Caution should be taken to ensure that it stays firmly rolled. Other considerations that you should put in place are to ascertain the paper is glued down. This ensures that the pressure conveyed is effectively absorbed. If the gluing does not work, you should apply once anew till it functions appropriately.

After the glue is dry, apply varnish to the strip to make it water resistant. You can then roll it around the bamboo skewer to ensure that it does not stick when it is totally dry. Do not let the glued piece stick onto something else. You might consider putting your toothpick in a pincushion to prevent it from touching anything else. Foam can also be used to push off the more glue.

You can then remove the beads after a few hours. This is when your varnish has positioned on your bead. It can also be done by sliding the items out of a bamboo skewer or dowel. It will hold only if it is glued and wrapped fine. If you experience unraveling of the bead, add more glue.

One can create some more beads using the steps above so as to complete the project. You can also create long strings and use them for decors or make several beads for jewelry. For decorating your beads, you might consider adding paint on the outside of the bead and put some glitter to make them more gleaming.

Going green by using old papers is both fun and a way of conserving the environment. It is an inexpensive project which many people enjoy doing and make good things out of it including gifts.
