Smart Suggestions For Finding The Perfect Dallas Santa For Hire

By Arthur Murray

Being in charge on the entertainment for the yearly Christmas pageant at the town community center or party at your child's school is a big responsibility. Kids don't want see something new and original. All they will be waiting for is the man in the red suit arriving from the Arctic North Pole. Once you've delivered him, you can rest easy. Finding the best possible Dallas Santa for hire takes some planning though.

If there isn't a father or grandfather willing to play the role, or unable to play it convincingly, you need to contact an agency. Since you don't want anyone around the kids who has not been thoroughly vetted, asking for fingerprints from the potential actor is a number one priority. This will give you information on any criminal background. Calling references is also important.

The annual Christmas bash is probably the biggest event of the school year. You can't afford to wait until after Halloween to book a performer. Most agencies advise event coordinators to make reservations for someone in August or September at the latest. This is when repeat customers are booking the most popular actors. By November the only people left are those nobody else wants.

When you are entertaining a lot of children, you have to make sure each one gets a chance to sit on the big man's lap, turn over a list, and take a photo. Rental companies say that Santas can handle about fifty kids an hour if necessary, but this doesn't give each one much time on his lap. For smaller gatherings you can figure about four minutes per child.

If your venue includes a fireplace, and you have the great idea of positioning the performer right next to it, agencies will tell you that you're making a mistake. The padding and the suit will get uncomfortably hot very quickly causing the actor to take frequent breaks. A throne in the middle of the room is a much better choice. Be sure to have your phone handy before the actor arrives so you can make your big announcement before someone spots him standing outside.

Hiring a Mrs. Santa and a sleigh full of elves might seem like a good idea. Agencies say it usually ends up overwhelming the kids. They say a better idea is to hire face painters and balloon artists to entertain the kids while they're waiting to talk to the star of the party.

To avoid miscommunication, you need to ask the agency what it is permissible to ask the performer to do. He will be talking to the children and having his picture taken. You can ask that he give out presents, read Christmas stories to the children and join in as the group sings Christmas carols.

Being in charge of the annual Christmas pageant or party is a big responsibility. You know the kids look forward to a visit from Santa all year long. It's important to choose the right one. Bad Santas are out there, and you want to avoid picking one of them.
