How Urban Book Publishers Help Authors

By Lou Manning

It is easy to find urban book publishers but it is not easy to get published. There are writers who are not that successful in getting a publisher for themselves. That is because it is a gamble.

Out from them, you are going to choose. They have to be really convinced that you can do this, that you can write and create a good story that would get the masses interest. You have to be really good. There are many writers today. Some are aspiring.

Unless you pitch in for the production of the manuscript, the cost will be shouldered by the publishing company everything from the printing down to marketing it or getting people to take notice of your product. It will be all work done by the publishing including distribution. Your part was just to write a good story that would hopefully get the attention of the readers and buy the finished product in bookstores.

Your story might have been published and translated into a hardbound cover but guess the ultimate test of becoming a published author is the response of the readers, which is often translated into sales. If your story does not make a sale, then it means that not many people like the story because if they did, they would have sold like hotcakes a long time ago. Quite the opposite is happening.

Not many people are buying and when there are no people purchasing it, it might be the last time that the publishing house will work for you. Publishing houses are in for the money. They are not doing charity works to authors. They are there to make money out of the story that they published for you.

If they did not make a profit with you, then they would not want to work with you again. You will be submitting works first with editors. Usually the editor is employed by the publishing house. If the editor likes it, then he will propose to the management to work with you on the story.

It should be something that publishing houses think worth publishing and worth reading most importantly. You should be able to find a good publishing house. There are many publishing houses just like many corporate labels for singers and band artists.

Then the manuscript will be printed in hardbound and distributed to the market. You can let an agent submit a short transcript of a work in progress. If they are interested with you story, they will get in touch with you. If not, then you know you will not get that call they were talking about.

Yes, you think that you have a beautiful story to tell or share with the world but it is the publishing company that knows the market really well. It does not hurt to incorporate their expertise in weaving the story. You know that it a successful launching is a collaboration of all the important elements of success like a good story, reliable and credible urban book publishers and yourself most importantly.
