Hip Hop Producers New Role In The Music Industry

In order to be successful as a Hip Hop producer in the music industry, a person must be able to wear numerous different hats. They must have a well-rounded knowledge of different aspects of the industry. It is no longer sufficient to simply know a lot about the recording process. In this day and age, a good producer must know about all the other things involved with creating a successful artist, too. This is all part of a music producers new role in the music industry.

The recording industry has gone through many changes in the past two decades. With the growth of the internet and digital releases, the entire landscape has changed. Radio play and the sales of physical copies of records have much less importance than they used to. Most fans hear new music by downloading it or going to YouTube, and viral marketing has taken on a great deal of importance.



As the music business in general has changed, so has the producer's role. A music producer must be able to handle and enhance many different aspects of a performer's career. These are a few of the various roles a good producer must expertly play. A producer's job is not limited to these things, but they are probably the most important factors.

1. A recording engineer. You need to know about the old techniques that still work, and you need to keep on top of all of the new techniques that are emerging. This will help you to advise and work with your artists to create the best possible sounds for their material. This is one role that a producer has always played.

2. It is important to know about the basic tenets of music theory in order to advise people who make music. If you are knowledgeable, they will respect and trust your opinion. You need to be familiar with the basics in order to envision how to enhance them with recording equipment and techniques. No matter what your profession, you should always become familiar with the basic aspects of your product.

3. A & R executive. As a Hip Hop producer, one must also be an artist & repertoire executive. Aspects of this role include scouting out new talent, working as a liaison between record labels and artists, and helping the artists to develop and grow in their craft. An A & R exec oversees the creative process as an album is developed.

4. Marketing experts. Good producers know how to market the artists they produce. In the digital age, this is of the utmost importance. You must know how to advise your artists regarding branding, social media, public image, interviews, and all other aspects of presenting themselves to the world. Marketing is no longer limited to press releases and interviews. The internet offers the opportunity for constant, 24-hour-a-day marketing.

These are only a few of the roles Hip Hop producers in Los Angeles must play. New issues and responsibilities arise constantly in this ever-changing industry. To keep yourself fresh and informed in your profession, you must stay on top of these changes. You should seek to understand every dimension of the music industry in which you work and the work you do.
