Information On The Proper Way To Hold A Violin

By Claudine Hodges

The violin bow usually works if it is held properly by the player such that he/she holds on the strings and pulls across the strings of the instrument. This action in turn creates vibrations that are the cause of the lovely sound that we hear. The proper way to hold a violin is the most important part of learning how to play this instrument. Improper bow holding can have its consequences therefore this is very important.

Many people who have failed in violin playing have done so because of the poor bow holding. This is because its usually something that is not that easy to do. Watching someone else do it may make it seem very easy but in real sense it requires a lot of practice to completely understand the basics. The following is important information that can be used to help people hold the violin correctly.

Before getting on stage with the violin, one should make sure that their arc is as tight as necessary. The shrillest part of the arc is referred to as a fiddlestick. The player should make certain that this thing is tight enough so that it may be scraped very simply with the fingers. The players should be familiar with how to properly place their limbs on this instrument.

A lesson about the placing of fingers on a violin bow should be more practical than theoretical. Words cannot be useful if they are the only things used to show a new player the way they are required to place their fingers on the instrument. Practice will enable them understand every basic detail about this task and therefore they will be better players.

It is important that the player stays calm when playing the violin. Being tensed will make it hard for them to pull the strings in a good manner that will make quality sounds. Being relaxed will enable the player to place their fingers loosely on the strings as it is required and in turn the quality of music they produce will be worth listening to.

Practicing is always advisable because it will help the performance be perfect. During the practice sessions, the performer will be capable of correcting any glitches they might have with their performance such as the diverse holdings they can use. During these periods they can also try different pressures to verify if they can develop the quality of sound produced.

Pressing the bow harder creates louder sound. This is the basis that is used when applying different pressures to the bow. This also makes it possible for the entertainer to include sound variations in their performance. The fingers are supposed to be in the correct places in order for the player to maintain quality sound.

Holding the violin bow correctly helps to create a much smoother and better sound. It helps to improve playing skills and techniques. Its therefore important that people understand that the correct bow hold will make a difference in their performance and therefore make an effort to learn about this.
