How Free Beats And Instrumentals Help Aspiring Artists Perfect Their Skills

By Robin Wesley

The digital age has made it easy to create music without having to set foot inside a studio. Advanced personal computer software gives musicians of all kinds the ability to make top-notch recordings incorporating original vocals and tracks. Often these are combined with downloaded free beats and instrumentals to make a very high quality finished product.

These no-cost tracks are not only fun to hear, but are also ideal for working on improving word flow and good vocal timing. Many times these recordings are presented without cost by established, successful artists who want to inspire new musicians to further develop their talents. These tracks are designated royalty-free, which simply means that the original artist does not expect payment each time one is used.

Many music styles are available for download, but the most common are in the hip-hop or rap genre. While most are used by non-professionals, any musician who wants to make money from sales must become aware of the legalities surrounding the use of this type of material. Even though the original artist is not expecting to be paid, the basic copyright still applies.

Some of these tracks have voice tags embedded in the recording, and those may not be legally removed. Others allow use in personal productions, but require that visible credit be attributed to the original distributing producers. In both instances there may be no charge to the user, but the music is still legally owned by the originator, not the person who downloaded it.

Some artists allow downloads of their music for private use, but specifically prohibit distribution of it on any website that actually sells music. Other websites allow downloads to be used one time only on a non-profit basis, which usually means a personal mix tape, a special school project, or any personal creative endeavor that will not actually make money.

For musicians who wish to eventually market their talents, there are a growing number of sites which do allow their material to be used in commercial recordings, but not as it was originally presented. This music must only be used as a background to newly recorded vocals, and no ownership may be claimed while it is still in its original form.

Regardless of the complicated legal concerns, free beats and instrumentals are an excellent way to learn from the professionals. While some musicians create their own, it takes time, knowledge and skill, and downloading them allows talented artists to concentrate on perfecting their performance skills.
