Live Music, Nature and Art in Bristol

By Audrey C. Howell

In Bristol, the stories of yesterday are still being written today. Stories that started with humble beginnings have grown to legendary proportions. The moment you get here, you'll understand -- like the recording sessions that spawned a musical movement. Or the old-fashioned racetrack that grew into NASCAR's most beloved track. With such rich and important history, it's no wonder we are a national tourist attraction!

All of these wonderful things unite Bristol, and set us apart from the rest of the United States. We're home to the first country music recordings, which has earned us the title of Birthplace of Country Music. This title is a huge honor for us! Our traditions continue with great live music throughout the year, with lots of festivals and music venues in historic downtown Bristol.

If you enjoy nature, we're home to some of the best fishing, biking, boating and places to hike and picnic, like the Steele Creek Park, Sugar Hollow Park and South Holston Lake. Why not include the whole family in our special attractions? We feature a 35-mile long Virginia Creeper Trail and parts of the Appalachian Trail. If you love being underground, there is also an option to visit the Bristol Caverns.

Not into the great outdoors? No problem. Bristol is home to the Paramount Center for the Arts, a site of many wonderful dramatic productions. In historic downtown you will also find fine art galleries and studios of local artists. Not far away is the Barter Theatre, the State Theater of Virginia. Bristol is very rich in high and lowbrow art and culture.

Bristol history dates far before the Revolutionary War, and we're proud of our incredibly rich history. If you want to see that history come to life, take a peek at attractions like Tales and Trails and Rocky Mount. No matter what you love, we've got something just for you!

We hope that you plan your next vacation or weekend getaway here in Bristol Tennessee. We've got that down-home southern hospitality and welcome everyone with open arms. Whether you're interested in music, art, theatre, or nature, we've got it all!
