Understanding The Uniqueness Of Kosmoratik Band

By Lora Jones

Kosmoratik band is known for its uniqueness in style. They are experimental with sounds from different instruments thus creating a unique progressive rock tune. This group has its roots in Norway where they sort to experiment on the layering concept in music. They have been largely successful and managed to produce a distinctive sound through combination of instruments.

Some of the notable influences to their music include John Martin and Nick Drake. The band has borrowed from the Beatles to include some magic into their pop style of play. Their music has acquired a symphonic element with the use of strings, acoustic guitar and oboe features. These are the elements that make it sound similar to pop.

Influences from previous bands have not prevented them from creating unique sounds on every song released. Their music is said to be fresh and forward looking. This does not make it lose the element of influence that can be attributed to inspirational artists of yesteryears.

The genesis of their name is an artistic technique that used layering in exhibitions done in the nineteenth century. It was referred to as cosmorama where landscapes, exotic objects and distant lands were viewed using optic devices. This gave them a real presence that brought them to life in your presence. This combination has been achieved in music through different instruments and professional arrangement.

The basis of cosmorama was to achieve the balance of nature through time. Time was viewed as the defining element of the appearance of a landscape and its special features which created a perfect look at each particular moment. When transferred to music, it meant that certain sounds entered a song or performance at the right time and left when it was appropriate.

The first album for the group was released a few years ago under the title gravitation. This is viewed as a deliberate choice considering the centrality of gravity in nature. It is a strong force that is not tangible yet the center of everything else in the universe. It is this force that keeps everything in position and around the sun.

The group hinges around such individuals as Eividn Johansen, one of the most talented members and founder. He has mastered song writing and is also a prolific vocalist. His preferred instruments are acoustic guitar and the piano where he displays extraordinary skills. He draws his inspiration from such artists as Lennon and Cohen and a pacific poet by the name Hafiz.

Odd Gunnar is a guitarist, pianist and exceptional on the bass. He has trained as a composer and arranger and does most of the symphonies for the group. He is instrumental in developing the structure of most of the tracts and fine tuning the arrangements. The group also includes Lise Agedal who has an impressive vocal range. She can seamlessly alternate between rock and jazz and is good at the keyboard.

Kosmoratik released their first album in May 2012 which gained them a fanatical following all over the world. Their sounds are tantalizing which has seen their events sell out long before the due dates. Their music is available online through interactive portals. They are an example of what uniqueness can do in winning unwavering following.
