Wedding Reception Entertainment Options And Ideas

By Marcie Goodman

Choosing wedding reception entertainment can be a challenge. There are so many options available but the important thing is to select what the bride and groom and their guests will be most comfortable and happy with. This once-in-a-lifetime event will help set the stage for the rest of the bridal couple's life together.

A band can be a focal point of the reception. They can play a variety of music within their genre and different songs honoring the bride and groom. The couple can choose the songs they like ahead of time, especially those of sentimental significance. They are usually expensive though, which may keep many couples from choosing this extravagance. They can also be limited to the type of music that they can play - for example, a country band may have a difficult time playing rock and roll.

For some, a disc jockey is a more flexible choice. They play any kind of music, the line up of songs can be selected in advance and they are often only too happy to handle any announcements or introductions that need to be made throughout the evening. Some assist in getting the guests involved with line dances and special routines. If the budget or even the space is limited, a disc jockey could be an excellent choice. They are available at almost any price range to help you keep your expenses down.

Karaoke is also fun and interactive. Guests can get up and sing their favorite love songs and even children can get involved. This can also be done in combination with a disc jockey so the best of both worlds is available.

Mariachis have also increased in popularity. They are a great way to greet guests as they arrive at the reception. Throughout the remainder of the evening, they will be able to serenade the bride and groom as well as the bridal party and all who attend. The upbeat music will give the reception a real party atmosphere.

Renting a photo booth can provide memories for the bride and groom and mementos for all the attendees. Place the booth where it is easily accessed and allow the guests to take photos with one or several people at a time. Usually the company is able to provide the bridal couple with a photo album of all the pictures that were taken of friends and relatives throughout the evening that they can review on all their future anniversaries.

There are many seasonal touches to add character to the special event. A first-day-of-summer reception could be held poolside. Santa Clause could appear at a December holiday wedding gathering. Balloon drops, top hats, noisemakers and sparklers would make a New Year's event one to be remembered for years to come.

If children are invited to the event, activities especially for this age group will keep them occupied. Suggestions include clowns, balloon artists, magicians, and moon bounces. Designate an area with supervision away from the main activities so distractions and noise will not be an issue.

Choosing the very best in wedding reception entertainment is a very personal choice. The personalities of the bride and groom come into play as well as the location and budget available. Selecting the best activities that will make the day memorable and will get the bride and groom off to a good start in their new life together is what really matters in the end.
