Well Known Science Fiction Music And Sound Effects

By Deanne Shepard

Movies, radio, television and theater all have a need for great soundtracks. A lot of science fiction music and fantasy oriented recordings provide a telling of some of the greatest stories ever told. Books, video games and live action often bring different sounds to life. Science fiction recordings can be found in mysteries, sci-fi epics and suspense thrillers.

There are also a number of television shows like Star Trek, Lost in Space, Twilight Zone and others that host some of the best and scariest sounds ever associated with film or television. Songs are often repeated at the beginning or end of each episode with special attention being paid to premieres and finales. While most accompaniment is provided at the beginning and end of a program, there are instances in which songs can accompany a plot, theme or simply appear in the background.

There are so many science fiction films, it can often be hard to keep up with all the music throughout a film or show. For this reason, soundtracks were invented early on in the days of radio and television. After which, the movie industry adopted the process and has created a soundtrack for productions in a number of different genres.

Satellite, cable and local channels all host full season of shows with multiple episodes. While some replay the same introductory recordings throughout all seasons, others try to mix it up. In fact, many producers prefer to create a change in this opening though shows like True Blood and Dexter seem to keep the same openings throughout the entire series.

While True Blood may be of a supernatural aspect, it would be pushing the limit to call it Science Fiction. Whereas, while Dexter deals with a lot of science, the series is far more about murder, mystery and intrigue than flying saucers. Yet, both show that producers often have different ways of creating excitement among audiences and fans.

These artists tell stories of alien inhabitants and love, fantasy, wonder and woe. Among the artist represented are DaftPunk, Elton John, Flight of the Conchords, The Vandals, Blondie, The Killers, Angie Aparo and many more. The songs vary but most include different versions of rocket songs while others focus on the ore ordinary side of science fiction life like artificial information, robots and time travel.

While science fiction is part fantasy, and fantasy part sci-fi, the two often go hand in hand. In fact, many of the same artists produce recordings and soundtracks for different theatrical releases. Live sound also has a place within this genre when it comes to popular fantastical musicals and plays based on fantasy or sci-fi. A good example of this would be The Wizard of Oz, or Wicked.

Soundtracks, whether live or pre-recorded are often released at the same time or before a DVD or Blu-Ray release. While it is easy to listen to the music during a film, series or show, the plot and storyline often take precedence. As such, a number of sound enthusiasts now purchase the soundtrack in order to listen to the music without the interference of the film or television show.
