Searching For The Right Laser Show Equipment

By Angela Sanders

When hosting an event or putting on a show, some organizers will decide to have some kind of light show to complement the performance. When selecting laser show equipment there are a few decisions to be made and some care is needed. This type of lighting is excellent due to it being very versatile and it can be used in many different ways.

Many colors and shapes can be produced by laser lighting and this is one of the reasons it is so widely used. It can also be visible from long distances which can be useful if you are trying to attract customers to an event or show. The units come in many different sizes and you will need some specialist advice while you are planning your shows.

There are businesses operating that specialize in laser lighting systems. When you find a firm they will usually pay you a visit and asses your venue to see what you need to put on the show. When they have had a look and made their assessment they will give you a price for the lights and then you can make your decision.

For a party or single event the most cost effective way is to rent some laser lights for the day. The lighting company will bring the lights to your premises and set them up before testing them. If the lights need to be operated a technician will stay with you and control them during the show or sometimes they can be pre programmed by the company.

When the event is over the company will send the engineers to take down the lights and take them away. It is imperative that the lights and accessories are only touched by qualified lighting engineers who have been fully trained. Many laser units use high voltages and they can be very dangerous in the wrong hands.

If you need lasers for a longer period or on a permanent basis then it may make financial sense to purchase your own lighting. The cost will depend on how many units you need and what type of lasers. The companies that sell your lights will often give tuition on setting up lighting rigs and show customers how to use them in the correct way. If you do own your own lighting system it may be a good idea to attend a short training course on safety and operation.

If your show is being staged in an area open to the general public you will probably have to get permission from the authorities in your area. Many neighborhoods will have restrictions on the use of lasers so it is worth checking before making any plans. Most lighting suppliers will assist you if you need help in applying for permission.

Any expensive lighting should always be well maintained and kept clean. Lenses should be kept free of any dust or debris and all cables should be checked regularly for any damage. If you have purchased a set of laser lights it is well worth getting them insured in case they get damaged or stolen.
