Attending to your first Star Wars convention can be somewhat strange. After all, it is not every day that you are in a big room packed with grown ups who are all dressed up in costumes from a particular collection. Nonetheless, no matter how strange it seems, it's also a lot of fun. I also have a collection of Bibles for Children when I was still a kid.
I've had more fun at the Star Wars conventions I have attended than practically anywhere else. The costumes, the exhibits, the stars, not to mention the Star Wars collectibles all create a fantastic time that is almost virtually out of this world.
The key to enjoying Star Wars conventions is to just roll with it. Many feel self-conscious about getting in to it in the beginning. It seems like a bit strange to try to get into character - particularly if there will probably be no less than fifty people around you dressed up as the same character. Still, you should try to feel comfortable doing it.
You will have a much better time if you allow the entire illusion role-play aspect of it overwhelm you and plunge right in to it.
After all, the main point of the thing would be to immerse yourself in the Star Wars world. It is no mere coincidence that the show has had the staying power it has. Even before they produced the most recent three movies, there were people who had read the books, memorized the dialog, and adored the original trilogy from the very beginning.
Star Wars gives people a simpler world minus the moral complexities that we must accept. It provides a universe of right and wrong where an evil kingdom is being inhibited by a morally pure and righteous revolt. You don't have to worry about complicated shades of meanings. It's all right there for you.
Able to Star Wars conventions means that you can be around individuals who can really understand and figure this out. It is such a good get away, specially when done in the company of other like-minded enthusiasts. You can be anyone you would like to be, whether good or evil, incidental or central.
People will accept you for who you are and for who you're pretending to be. In a sort of nerdy, odd way, it is a slice of heaven. And also if it is not your world, it still may be worth considering simply to see the strangeness of it all.
