What You Have To Know When Choosing A Jazz Guitar Amp

By Angel Dudley

Purchasing a jazz guitar amp is usually what a person needs to do after he or she has bought a guitar. Amplifiers play a crucial role in determining how guitars sound. They normally improve the sound of the guitar as well as amplifying their sound. The amplifier a person buys matters a lot. They come in different qualities, and good quality ones can make normal guitars sound good. The opposite is equally true. That is why musicians do say that guitars are as good as their amplifiers.

Getting a good amplifier requires one to know the types that are available in the market. Basically, there are four types in the market. The one that gives you the best results does not necessarily have to be the costliest. You should get one which is best suited for your music equipment.

The tube amplifier is the first type. It is the first make to hit the markets. Tube amplifiers normally generate rich, warm sounds. The amplifiers use a glass tube, and generate loudest sounds among the different types. However, they are quite huge, and also their maintenance costs a lot. As such, you should take great caution when moving these amplifiers around.

Solid-state amplifier is the second type. This one uses transistors instead of tubes. It makes them an excellent choice for heavy usage, and also makes them quite handy. However, fine tuning is required at higher frequencies failure to which the amplifier will produce harsh, distorted sounds. A number of guitarists prefer solid-state amplifiers, while some have reported a distortion of the sound quality it produces from the original one.

Digital amplifiers are the next on the line. These are trendy and employ the use of digital technology in amplification. These amplifiers can mimic a wide range of sounds including the tube amplifiers. They can also distort sound. Less costly ones sometimes sound synthetic. Thus, if you want great sound from your jazz guitar, then you will have to go for the sophisticated digital amplifier. They sound so good, and you cannot tell them apart from that made by the tube amp.

The hybrid amplifier is the last type. This type combines technologies used in tube and solid-state amplifiers. The amplifier tone is derived from tube technology and power from solid-state technology. These provide cheaper options to tube amplifiers, more so if you desire sound of similar quality to that produced by tube amplifiers.

Jazz guitarists have diverse preferences in the amplifiers they use for their guitars. A big chunk of them prefer tube amplifiers due to their acoustic sounding. However, several other renowned guitarists who use solid-state amplifiers also exist. These amplifiers also generate marvelous sounds. The choice totally depends on the guitarist.

The sound made, the traveling distances, the degree of jazz guitar amp use, and also the eventual cost of the amplifier determines which one a person buys. It is also of importance to know that the music produced is also dependent on the guitarist. Bad guitarists will always make bad music even when they are given the best equipments.
