Steps To Making An Abstract Watercolor Painting

By Serena Price

When creating an abstract watercolor painting, the artist has to follow a certain process wherein he will be brainstorming, conceptualizing, and then painting. There is a misconception in most people that abstract artists would just randomly paint using random colors and random strokes. Of course the truth is that artists in this field are actually painting an object in their own perspective.

Of course before anything else, one has to first go to the art store and buy some of the necessary things. Now the very first thing that one will be ending would be some brushes and some paints to start working. From there, get a cup, fill it up with some water and set up a canvas in order to start working on the artwork.

The next thing to do is to simply pick an object of interest to start on. Of course this may be any still life like a vase of flowers, a bowl of fruit, a tree, a plant, a flower, or anything that is not moving. Once one has already decided on what object he would want to focus on, then he will now have to concentrate on it fully.

Now if one is just a beginner, then he it is actually best that he would first create a point of reference that he can follow. In order to create this point of reference, he would have to first lightly sketch the object on to the canvas so that there may be something to follow. Now if one is already a seasoned painter, then he may skip this step as he would already know how to paint directly.

After making the light sketch, then the next step here would be to conceptualize a bit and start visualizing. The thing that he must know is how he views the object that he is working on and then try to paint it in a different way. He must already have some sort of visualization of how he is going to paint the object.

From there, he can start with mixing the water and the paints. After doing this, he may start with any color that he would want as the portrayal of his painting will actually depend on his own creativity. So based on his small drawing, he will create an abstract portrayal of that object that he drew.

The last step here is to edit the artwork a little bit by adding a bit more layers to add some color and strokes. Now editing the artwork is very important because it will either make or break it. So one has to just continue putting some more strokes and colors that are nice so the finished outcome is beautiful.

So if one would follow these steps to making an abstract watercolor painting, then he may come up with a beautiful finished product. Of course he has to go through a process of conceptualizing before he comes up with a finished product. As long as one follows the process, then he will not have a hard time starting from scratch.
