Abstract art is treated as an important genre since the last century. It is a very interesting medium which was firstly introduced by the Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky. He discovered that sometimes shapes and colours can be descriptive and they do not require any sort of definition. Since then this form of art is very popular and especially abstract watercolor painting.

You need to know the basics of this medium and you're good to go. You are not required to gain experience in this field. It depends of very single individual's skills and abilities that how he is able to combine different elements in an abstract but artistic way. There are no certain set rules in place so you are free to experiment the way you like.

It is said that abstract watercolour actually represents the post Renaissance movements that depicted Impressionism, Fauvism and Cubism. The basic essence of abstract painting is that it doesn't matter if you are painting around a subject matter or not because the picture you paint can convey your message even if you do it abstractly.

History uncovers that water colours were often times utilized amid the Renaissance and Medieval times. It will appear watery if the texture is too thin and its thick, it will appear more rigid in texture. Many artists believed that water colour is just a very small medium and there is not much scope with regards to expressing your imagination. This is the basic reason behind the fact that you will not see any famous watercolour paintings made by some of the world famous artists. But, there are artists who have done extremely well in reviving this medium and making it as innovative as possible and these artists include Paul Jenkins and Sam Francis.

The good thing about such paintings is that any one can try doing it. Although your work cannot be compared to world known artists but for your own satisfaction you can paint the way you like while using your own preferred medium. You could decorate your walls with your own handmade paintings provided, they look pleasing to the eyes. If you are in doubt, you can always try to paint and if it looks good you can go further ahead.

You should carefully buy water colour paints because if you buy the cheap ones, they will not bear good quality and your strokes will appear smudgy and untidy. Also, the brushes you use should be good as well. Its best to buy good quality tools in order to make a good quality picture.
