There Are A Great Number Of Burning Spear Discs

By Rosalind Estes

There are a great number of Burning Spear discs on the market. He has been one of the preeminent reggae artiest since the beginning and has been releasing albums consistently for more than 30 years. There are also several live albums and compilations that also add to the collection.

Although their careers began at roughly the same time he never achieved the same level of universal popularity that Bob Marley did. He is still undoubtedly one of the most legendary reggae artists to ever come out of Jamaica. Although many of his recordings where made in America his still authentically Rastafarian.

One of the greatest influences on his Philosophy was Marcus Garvey and one of his albums was named for him. Both Garvey and Bob Marley where also born in the same town that he was. They all three hail from Saint Ann's Bay and where obviously all inspired by the same lifestyle.

Rodney only took the name for himself after the release of that album in 1976. Before that it referred to a group that was originally started with bass singer Rupert Willington. They where later joined by tenor singer Delroy Hinds.

The first of the Burning Spear disks that could be attributed to Rodney as a solo artist was Dry and Heavy. This was released in 1977. In the same year he also did his first live recording of a concert in London that took place at the Rainbow Theater.

He continued to create albums regularly until 2008 and his most recent recording is Jah is Real which also won him a Grammy for best Reggae album. He also still tours quite regularly and has a production company to take care of bookings. You can find any of the burning spear discs online in several version of each.
