Original Howard Terpning Prints Carry Great Value

Usually artists work will only be in great demand once deceased. However this is not the case for any Howard Terpning prints. Many galleries advertise the availability of sought after prints done by this well-known painter.

Born on 5th November 1927 in Illinois, this extraordinary talented man started sketching at a very young age and by the age of 17 the Native Americans became the focal subject choice for sketches. After studying fine art at the Chicago Academy of Fine Art this artist first started illustrating for mag covers, advertising and story illustrations. These cover sketches are now in great demand as a limited edition were printed, especially the more famous ones done for Dr Zhivago and the remake of Gone with the wind.

In 1974 a transition occurred and Howard started doing fine art depicting the Native American culture and history. This is when the true talent hidden was released and many people and societies started recognizing the beauty of the work being produced. Resulting in a long list of accolades from many cultural societies, the main one being the Cowboy Artists of America, of which Mr. Terpning is a member.

Anyone wondering what all the hype is about only needs to look at the detailed brilliance portrayed in these awe inspiring paintings. What really captures ones attention is the brushstrokes and palette used to create a mesmerizing piece of history. All of the paintings reflect a deep respect and passion for the Native American Indians, with the deep rooted culture and tradition portrayed in its purest form.

In 2006 two of these types of paintings sold for a whopping $1.4 million and $1.0million respectively, a far cry from initial work that carried a $2000-2 500 price tag. Terpning artwork has over the years been put into sellable prints giving the average Joe a chance to have a piece of this art in one's home. A lot more affordable than the original pieces, some of these prints are rare to find thus greatly increasing the value of the item.

Any pictures that have been signed by the 85yr old are a much sort after commodity. Galleries across America stock a large assortment of the most popular pieces of period print work. Prices range from around $200 upwards, depending on how many were released into circulation. What makes it more exciting is that some had a limited number released, and as per usual this increased the demand for possession.

For any collector of this Western period type work purchasing one of these works of art to the collection is a definite must. But truth be told the quality and distinct nature will attract any American art connoisseur. Appealing to many USA citizens due to the historic nature.

Like fine wine that improves with age, experts predict that Howard Terpning prints will be around for 100s of years. Western historical museums agree that the artwork is timeless in its subject matter and will form an important addition to any display. Looking at the story portrayed many will be transformed into a bye gone era.
