Attracting Potential Clothes Buyer Through The Use Of A Catalog

By Anne Flores

It's a fact that women like to shop for apparels. They like to try the latest fashion on and search through shops for great steals. But if the ladies can't come to a shop for some reasons, why not let the store come to them?

A catalog is a great marketing instrument. Some women consider shopping a therapy, but if they can't go to a store, looking at catalogs can likewise do wonders. The professionally taken apparels, if placed correctly on the pages, can lure even the fussiest of buyers. Catalogs are similar to women's magazines in a sense that they are both good "reading" materials for women.

Clothes shown on a catalog are commonly a preview of the current or emerging fashions from a company, which is a great lure for fashionistas. They would be able to get the latest fashion even before it hits the market.

While most women don't have a problem shopping for clothes, it's not the same for men. Ever wonder how Victoria's Secret began? A man named Roy Raymond began the company in 1977 because he was embarrassed to buy lingerie for his wife in a department store environment. And while he opened physical shops, he also promptly followed it with a mail-order catalog so those who couldn't or didn't want to go to his shop would still be able to browse products through catalogs. So there you have it. Catalogs worked for men then, they still work for men now.

That's not all. A garments catalog makes men pay attention. Catalogs about hardware tools, car parts and accessories, and electronic gizmos get men's attention, true, but so do their physical store counterparts. A man can spend time inside a hardware store or car accessories shop, but a man won't linger any longer than required inside a boutique shop. If a man needs a white shirt, he will go directly to a store in the mall that sells white shirt and leave as soon as he buys one. But for a woman, if she needs a white shirt, she will comb the entire mall and enter several stores that sell it before she purchases one, and most probably, a whole lot of other things as well before leaving the mall.

Therefore, a garment company needs to bring all its items to him. A catalog will do the trick. A man will be forced to look at the other garments as well, which may lead him to purchase one or two more items.

A catalog also attracts potential new shoppers. There are those who don't get into a store just because they are not familiar with it. Curiosity doesn't bother them, so even if the shop has a new batch of styles that they may like, they won't know about it. But there are also those who are curious but are reluctant to enter a boutique because they might find the products too pricey for them.

Those who are not familiar with the store may find something that will interest them through a catalog. The prices, as well as a dress' available sizes, colors, materials are posted so whatsoever query they might have may easily be answered.

If presented in a correct way, catalogs are a great help for clothing companies. An excellent catalog should have full information of the item, including a correctly photographed and placed picture. An attractive layout is also important. Its success depends on whether people would like to flip through its pages. And that can be achieved when it is interestingly made to begin with.
