The Best Comedy Films Promote Laughing Out Loud

By Jeanette Walsh

The best comedy films have a two-fold effect on audiences. These movies make viewers laugh out loud and can enhance people's overall well-being. A well known idea is that laughter can have a therapeutic effect. Comedies have the ability to draw people into the plot, using laughter and other humor stimulating visual experiences. This is why many people use comedies to relieve stress. Everyone has different senses of humor. Therefore, different sub-genres of comedy have emerged. This article will discuss these genres and the healing aspect associated with laughter.

One of the best medicines has been referred to as laughter. This is a common belief among people. We all have that one friend who is always trying to make people laugh. It is often very difficult to remain lighthearted during difficult situations. There is proof that this is not just a common belief. Laughter can be healing.

Psychologists have performed different studies designed to prove or disprove whether or not comedy has the ability to alleviate stress and make people happier. One specific study addressed a group of bed ridden patients in a hospital setting. It proved that laughter can have healing elements. There have been many other experiments done. This is just an example of one.

Tests and questioning were done before the experiment to identify the patient's level of happiness. A series of comedies were then shown to the patients over a designated period of time. They were shown the same films and different genres of comedy were played for them. The same screening for happiness was done after the movies were played as was done before. The results proved, without a doubt, that the patients were happier and less stressed after being exposed to the comedies. Both psychological and medical tests proved this.

Emotions can help draw a viewer into a movie. If an audience can relate emotionally to a film the writer has done a good job portraying things as they actually are. If people relate to the film, it can make it easier to get pulled into the storyline. Life's problems just seem to drift away as the plot of the movie feeds our emotions, especially laughter.

Most humor centered movies use everyday situations that we all encounter and add a funny experience to it. It makes viewers able to believe that this could actually happen to them. This factor adds to the comedic affect. People are more willing to laugh at things that are realistic and believable. Others of us enjoy seeing people in films hurt in a minor way. These variations in sense of humor are what led directors and writers to invent different comedy genres.

There are a few different sub-genres found withing the comedy movie genre. Some include satire, slapstick, dark and romantic comedies. Satirical comedies use off-beat characters to make light of today's society, often using sarcasm to do so. Slapstick started out before sound was even added. They use harmless injuries and other visual simulations to make audiences laugh. Dark comedies focus on difficult issues, such as death and war and find a way to make light of them. Romantic comedies simply make light of the hardship involved within intimate relationships.

The best comedy films know how to promote joy. They induce laughter and happiness. Comedies can help people get through the most difficult situations. It is important to recognize that people are unique. This is also true for their sense of humor. That is why there are different variations of comedy produced.
