Why Are RPC Labels Being Redesigned

By Jami Weiss

A standardization process has recently been implemented to offer uniformity to RPC labels. The reason behind the implementation of this procedure is that all reusable plastic containers should have necessary information printed on them in such a manner that it can easily be read by anyone.

The need to standardize labels was felt by the Reusable Pallet & Container Consortium. The reason behind this redesigning procedure was that it was deemed necessary for these labels to serve their real purpose, which was to offer complete information about the products in accordance with the guidelines set by law.

The manufacturers previously did not take any step whatsoever to make sure that the information was presented in an efficient manner. The reason was that the law did not state any guidelines with regards to product tags. Another issue that was identified was that certain products were being sold without any labels placed over them. The reason behind such an action was that the tags used to get pulled off during the transportation of products.

The authorities believed that a single template should be formed so as to be used by all manufacturers. This method obviously made sure that all the products followed the law in terms of their tags and label. This step was basically taken to make sure that all the necessary information that people might be interested in is readily available.

A number of options were considered and then the authorities settled on using glossy paper. The sticker dimensions were also specified so that these remained the same for all products. The reason why glossy paper was chosen was that it does not get easily damaged and it is pretty resistant to water. The best thing is that it is rather hard for it to come off and these are very economical too.

These days, products that have been grown organically are packed in a green wrapper and those that are grown conventionally are packed in a white wrapper so that people can easily differentiate between the two. If a manufacturer is not sure about which category his product lies in, he can just get in touch with the authorities for help on these guidelines.

It is necessary for the RPC labels to have the product name, number of pieces found within the package, the weight of the products, its grade and the location where it was grown printed on them. It must additionally contain the details of the company that initially produced it. All the efforts put in by the RPCC have made it extremely easy for consumers to acquire all the information that they need through these tags. Read more about: RPC Labels
