At present, anybody can easily identify an oldie song my merely listening some portions of it. You can immediately identify it even if you are not a passionate oldie music fan. You do not even need to read the contents of the single to identify one. At present, countless of these oldies have managed to creep inside the walls of our brain because they existed for several years worldwide.

What are the attributes of an Oldie?

Oldies songs are those hits from the 1940's up to the 1970's. Oldies songs include those belonging to the decades of 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's. There are deemed oldies in reference to the century that we in, 21st century. These songs are considered "Oldie but Goodie" because they managed to penetrate and stay popular even up to the present time. Their popularity stay firm and strong despite the passage of time, thus they are deemed as classics.

Despite being sung by different artists using different instruments and arrangements, their lyrics and tune remain unchanged. Regardless of the changes, oldie music enthusiasts still identify them.

Popular examples of oldie music are those tunes of Elvis Presley. The classic song of Louis Armstrong from the 1940's titled, "What a Wonderful World?" is also one. They are timeless. Despite the age and time, we can immediately identify an old music and find ourselves singing along with the song as we feel the soothing and relaxing lyrics of the music.

The sense and style of Oldies Music

The lyrics of oldies are totally different with that of the present music in terms of sense and style. Those oldies written in the middle portion of 20th century are more expressive, lovely and focus on love of human race and existence. Despite the presence of similar lyrics and message to oldies songs, you can still notice the difference when it comes to the quietness of oldies tunes. As eras evolved with time, so does the format, the genre and wordings of songs. The rapid changes and evolution of technology resulted to the advancement in music like dance mix, techno pop and rap. This type of music could not exist during the middle part of the 20th century because the musical instruments have not been invented or reached their musical heights.

Despite the arguments of some individuals about the existence of 45 record for oldie music single, oldie hits remained strong regardless of the transition of years.

Some individuals even conversely argued that oldies songs do not sound as good if not played on turntable. Probably their conclusions and arguments are related to the manner on how music is produced when the needle touches the vinyl record of oldie songs. It is not that manner on how these songs are recorded or delivered, but it is the sentimental value of the songs that makes oldies popular and classic. Despite the crisp and clearness of the modern songs of CD players, they are bare and dull to the ears of listeners.

Singers of oldies who etched our minds

Some of the oldies singer which songs have etched our minds include "Nat King Cole and Natalie Cole for "Unforgettable," almost all of the songs of Frank Sinatra, Art Garfunkel for "I only have eyes for you" and Bing Crosby and Grace Kelly for "True Love." The loveliness and difference of the oldies are not only found on the lyrics written on paper, but the tunes and lyrics that touch the heart and pierce your head.
