Holiday Centerpieces For Any Occasion

By Ava McCormick

It does not have to be a challenge to create beautiful and eye catching holiday centerpieces for that party or family gathering. A dose of imagination and a few simple items will work together to make those perfect arrangements for guest and food tables. They do not have to be expensive either - a few dollars is all it takes to create masterpieces for your event.

A simple plant with a few additional touches is sometimes all that is needed. Pick out healthy poinsettias or tiny evergreens at your local nursery. Place on a round mirror in the middle of the table and add extra touches such as tiny glass ornaments, tea lights, miniature gifts or a scattering of colorful wrapped candies around the base.

Position a plain or colored pillar candle on a clear glass plate and place a tall glass hurricane over it. For extra emphasis, add a small wreath or ring of evergreen or ivy around the base. Placing a few round Christmas ornaments around the base that match the color scheme will give the arrangement extra interest and pizazz. Hook a few candy canes on the hurricane rim for a whimsical touch.

Place a pillar candle in a round bubble bowl about the same height as the candle. Surround the base of the candle with holiday objects such as pine cones, green and red marbles or a profusion of small red and green ornaments. Even food items such as red hots, red and white mints or old fashioned Christmas ribbon candy can be utilized. Place this arrangement on a small round mirror for extra emphasis.

Pillar candles arranged in various heights on gold, red or silver chargers can make stunning but simple arrangements. Insert sprigs of holly, small ornaments or tiny holiday figures at the base for more visual appeal. Tie a ribbon around the entire arrangement to match your linens and other decorations.

Small bubble bowls or open glass containers with wide mouths can become truly elegant decorations when filled with water with a layer of colored stones on the bottom and a gorgeous open rose bloom floating at the top. To make sure the roses are opened enough when ready to use, just place the stems in warm water a few hours beforehand. Snip the stems closely to the bottom of the flower and place in the water in the receptacle for a lovely conversation piece.

If you collect such items such as Santa Clauses, reindeer, snowmen or other holiday figures, consider using them as centerpieces. Combine with artificial snow, miniature wrapped gifts and sprigs of evergreen to make every table unique and different. There is an unlimited amount of variations that can be assembled.

Holiday centerpieces do not have to be difficult. During this season, there are so many other pressing demands that it is reassuring that these decorations will be arranged so quickly and easily. Your family or guests will love them and be impressed by your creativity and skill.
