Success in the Record Industry - Tools

By Piree Lowe

You have taken the biggest step towards being successful in the music business by reading this. GREAT. Hopefully you KNOW that you will be successful, and you don't THINK you'll be successful. Also, hopefully you already know what you want to do in the music industry, and have already started practicing countless hours to be the best at it.

Also, you have realized that you will need both a creative and business mind to succeed in the music business. GREAT! Now it is time to discuss the proper tools that you will need in order to succeed in the music business.

Every business requires the proper tools to succeed. Every job requires the proper tools to get the job done. In music you must have the basic tools described in the first part of this guide. You must have a dream, and know that you will do everything to catch that dream. You must have an understanding for the creative and business mind. And you must have a musical skill. If not, you should tackle these before moving on.

Now that you have those tools, here is one of the most important you will need. You must understand that the record industry is like any other industry. You have something to sell. You have a person to sell it. You have a person who will advertise it. You have a person that will mass produce it. You have a person that will ship it. You have a person that will market it. And you have a person that will cover all of your legalities.

You must have all of these in order to be successful in the music industry. Below are a list of questions you can use to see if you have the necessary tools for success in the music industry:

1. Do you have a musical talent that you can develop into a skill to sell to the world?

2. Is your talent/skill different enough to draw the audience that you want?

3. Is your physical appearance going to be accepted by the public that you're looking to sell too? You must understand that the music industry has become very visual.

4. Do you work well with others?

5. Can you give orders without making people mad?

6. Can you have an optimistic outlook on a bad situation and press forward?

7. Can you take rejection without getting mad or giving up?

8. Are you patient?

9. Does stress make you mentally frustrated to the point that you can't continue?

10. Can you put time into doing what it takes to be successful?

11. Do you have the money to completely focus on pursuing your musical career without any distraction?

If you have answered yes to all of these questions, you are ready! It is now time to form your plan of action for success in the music industry. Congratulations.
