Why There Is No More Super Music Producers ?

By Marcia Alvin

At the beginning of 2000's, the music industry, particularly the communities of hiphop and rnb, saw the growth of what we now call the "super music producers", accounting for frontrunners: Dr. Dre, Timbaland, Rodney Jerkins or even The Neptunes.

Exactly what is a "super producer"? So, the most reliable description of their difference with a "simple" producer should take on the demonstration of what we call a "supermodel" in fashion, such as Cindy Crawford, Claudia Schiffer or Naomi Campbell. You know these legendary super-models as well as anybody else and you can see all of them on many the catwalks. Briefly: safe values.

This has been the identical thing in the music industry: there have been "big" producers, safe values, that driven entirely the projects and were requested by the most universally known singers and also rappers. That was always more safe for record company to exploit a highly rated music producer compared with a novice. The known one provided a lot of excellent singles, in principle. For the simple reason that back then commonly big producers sold discs.

But, the music industry, since the beginning of the decade changed. First, people don't actually purchase disc nowadays.

So the record companies give lower budget for a project. And naturally, record labels shall no longer be ready to purchase between $ 100 000 to $ 300 000 for just one single beat, as was the situation through the golden times of music producers. The discs tend to not sell and worldwide web grows. To defeat not approved downloading of their artists, record companies create or merge with statutory download applications and want to force their visibility on this internet world, which has been running from their control for way too long.

But the increasing use of the web in addition has allowed the emanation of a lot of not known producers as good as, if not more advantageous than, "Super Producers".

A lot of these producers have paying attention to the progressing of the Internet, which has allowed these to sell their beats online. Allowing them to connect and also work with performers on a local scale as well as a worldwide one. A producer from New york City is now able to supply beats to songwriters in Japan. It gets now less complicated for them to get a good reputation or have a career. For the artists, this makes a huge difference! They are able to buy beats online in their house for their album, EP or mixtape for affordable prices; not even close to being those applied by the "super producers".

Record labels pay a particular attention to this modern market. They buy beats online as well. And these days we can observe that some internet based producers are receiving hired by majors.

The golden time period of super producers such as the age of super model fades away gradually, offering option to this new market driven by producers who, often, do not have anything to envy to the "super producers".
