Choose The Best Ballet School For Your Child

By Chelsea Evans

The search for the right Richmond ballet school may not be easy. Given how your decision is critical to the child's learning, mistake is not an option. Making a selection may seem easy for those who are not involved, but for a parent who only wants the best for his child, it may lead to an unending list of questions and concerns. The facilities, safety and price must all be taken into account. Not to mention the type of training being offered. More importantly, the experiences it can provide to the child.

Decide when to enroll the child. Most of the time, the parents get too excited than the children. Before you make up your mind and enroll the child, assess his commitment first. He may be interested for now but he might easily get bored. Consider his personality, disposition and emotional maturity.

Gather names of reputable dance schools to choose from. Look up for contact numbers of your prospects. Do a brief research on the schools to make sure that your child gets the highest quality of training. Remember that all dance studios are not created equal. Factor in the studio's reputation and slim down the list by removing those with ill repute.

Drop by the studio. To help you decide, you can visit about three schools to compare. Do not be content with what you read or heard. Sometimes, their observations may not be in line with yours because they are under a different circumstance. Put off your evaluation until you have checked the place on your own using your own standards.

Meet the teacher. Most of your child's learning is dependent on the teacher. He can only learn what his instructor passes on. Make sure that the instructor has solid background and credentials in training ballet. He may not be able to teach effectively unless he fully understands the dance. Even so, not all good performers are effective teachers.

Examine the studio facilities. Whatever is in the studio can impact your child's learning. Make sure that there are enough spaces for the students to move around without hurting each other. The place must also be well-ventilated to maximize the training. The studio must also be spic and span from wall to wall. Every dance studio must also be surrounded with good mirrors.

Inquire about the fees. Ask for written layout that stipulates the tuition fees and other expenses. It must be comprehensive, so you will not be surprised in the middle of the training session. Consider the school's facilities, quality and reputation. The price must be reasonable. You may also bring up talks about withdrawal penalties, just in case.

Bring your child for a free trial lesson. Ultimately, you have to consider your child's reception. Bring him to a dance workshop and assess how he reacts. If he seems to enjoy what he is seeing, he is more likely to be receptive. On the other hand, if he feels uncomfortable, you would only be wasting your time, resources and effort to vain.

Make sure that your child is having fun. For a child, dancing must not feel like a chore but a fun learning experience. Every good Richmond ballet school sees to it that the child is enjoying every session. The more a child loves what he is doing, the more exceptional he becomes.
