How Comedy Films Were In The Past

By Matt McKinley

Taking a look back in time at the movies of old we come to notice that a large bulk of them were silent movies. These were mostly in the genre of making people laugh while at the same time letting them know that good always reigns over evil in the end.

Most of the people who would go to watch films therefore would expect the movie to contain a lot of humor no matter what the subject matter was about. As time went by these comedies were slowly replaced with satires that would point fingers at different things in the community.

With the use of humor, movies were a good way to deliver messages to the masses about what was going on in their society while entertaining them at the same time. Movie producers came to realize that one way of captivating the audiences was through the use of gender swapping roles that let the women know what it was like to be a man and vice versa as well.

At that time, movies became more helpful to understand the happenings of society by dint of pure humor and charm. The films those became famous, for instances, 'comedy of manners', were entirely focused on the fact of peculiar way of doing something in the society. The most amusing fact is that, these things are represented through extremely polished dialogues. Some films are remarkably appreciated by the audience only because of involving different gender movements inside the scenes. As an example, we can talk about the film 'Tootsie' where besides using different gender an exquisite humor is provoked.

In some cases, results showed that in the end more people would prefer to go watch a classic being reincarnated in a mocking manner than a totally new comedy film.

Another interesting style of comedy came from the black comedies which aimed to make humor of seriously tabooed habits like murder but in a way that the audience realize that in the end it does not pay.

The audience was able to laugh through a major part of the film but when it came to the punch line they would have the fear of committing taboos instilled in them.

There are many other comedy genres which were created by combining humor with other themes like action to create action comedy and so on and so forth.
