Festival season is fast approaching and it's nearly time to dig out those wellies and prepare to get muddy! After a long cold winter, who can blame us for looking forward to a good old fashioned knees up? If festival vibes are your thing, Britain can certainly deliver the goods. Over the years, Britain has seen more and more festivals make their marks on the festival circuit; meaning music lovers are completely spoilt for choice. Catering for all genres from folk and rock to jazz and techno, Britain's got it covered!
One of the first festivals that we feel you should know about is Rockness, aptly named because of its location, on the shore of the world famous Loch Ness. Acts to grace the stages in the past include Daft Punk, The Chemical Brothers and Groove Armada. This is a great little festival, and if you're lucky you may even catch a glimpse of Nessy!
For the rockers and metal heads out there, Leeds or Reading festivals are an absolute must. Taking place simultaneously at Bramham Park in Leeds and Richfield Avenue in Reading, the organisers never fail to book the cream of the crop. Acts such as Deftones and Offspring will be gracing the stage this year so grab your wellies and head on down.
The mother of all festivals and arguably the most famous in the world goes by the name of Glastonbury. Taking place from 22nd to 26th June on a farm in Somerset, Glastonbury has a long history behind it dating back to the summer of 1970, the day after Jimi Hendrix died. Beginning life as a small hippy festival and gradually expanding into a 135,000 capacity super festival whilst staying true to its hippy routes.
One of the last events in the summer festival calendar takes place on the Isle of White. Bestival is the big brother of Rob Da Bank's weekly club night 'Sunday Best'. The award winning festival has been going strong since 2004 and grows in size every year, in terms of attendance and performers. Every year has a different theme and a fancy dress in accordance with that theme. Be sure to take your waterproofs as this takes place in September, there is always the chance of rain.
