Dark Fiction Is Another Term For Horror

By Rosemary Morris

Dark fiction is an interesting genre of writing that mainly has horror. It is a type of writing, which has components of confusion and excitement. In any given story there has to be an element of horror, fear and uncertainty. If these elements are missing, it can't be termed as such a scary book. Every author or writer has their special style of writing. No matter what their approach is, they must follow the guidelines.

Normally, the name dark is often synonymous to fear, suspicion and vagueness. In this type of book, the endings vary from story to story. Initially, relevant writers follow a basic style of writing, but it is not the same anymore.

New age writers have started to bring transformations in their writing style. Their writings consist of more than pure and simple horror. In most of these stories, the lines of horror have been surpassed. Both dark fantasy and dark fiction have the same meaning. They can be used interchangeably.

These consist of stories that include, fear, suspense, thriller and ambiguity. In most stories, there is narration from the point of view of the ghost or a main character. Both the experienced and new authors have introduced variations in this type of literature.

The main motive of bringing such a change is to attract more readers and keep them engaged. Before writing, the authors do a proper research about their topic. The more interested readers are the more demand for such books rises.

Although the stories are similar, their endings might differ. The ending could be gloomy, tragic, happy or incomplete. A lot depends on the reader, if they prefer a pure thriller the dark fiction is just perfect for them. If the reader is scared then the author has done their job.
