Open Casting Calls for Commericals

By Jim Dunn

At an audition for commercials, you will see the casting directors and even possibly the producers. Be sure that you treat everyone you meet with equal respect. You need to treat everyone with respect because you never know if that person in the elevator is a casting director or producer.

Casting directors at these auditions will see a lot of candidates. You should make the job of the casting directors as easy as possible. The bottom line is to be prepared and do not waste anyone's time. If you manage to piss someone off, you'll also lose your chance at that role.

Be sure you introduce yourself and have your resume and headshot on hand. You want to make sure that you have your agent's information to give to the staff at the audition and casting call place. If you don't have an agent now, note that they take about 10% from your paycheck only if they get you that job.Agents may be helpful if you don't have one. They will find you a job and won't get paid until they do. Then they will take usually around 10% of your paycheck for that job they found for you.)

Depending on what type of commercial it is, you may be asked to do a variety of things. To keep on your toes, you should take an improv class so that you can think quickly. The TV commercial casting directors will ask you to read lines from the commercials so they can determine if you are a right fit for the role.
