How To Transfer To DVD

By Dorothea Garner

Transferring DVD to disk can be easily achieved by following the default instructions you desktop computer instructs you to carry out. To transfer to DVD you will need some hardware to complete the job. These will include a video camera, clean formatted disks and a USB cable or memory card to transfer the data to your desktop computer.

The tools you will require include a video camera preferably with a USB port or a card reader. These two hardware products are essential in order to transfer you DVD data to your desktop computer or notebook or other mobile storage device. One would also need a video camera of course and should you not be in possession of one, they are easily hired, bought or borrowed from a friend.

The third ingredient is that you will need to purchase DVD disks. These can either be re-writable disks or writable disks. This is where your videos will be stored for playback purposes. The amount of disk space, meaning memory, that these disks are retailed at vary in memory size. It is advisable to have at least four gigabytes of memory as video files are large.

In order to accomplish this task, the disk you purchase must be inserted into the CD drive. A pop up window will appear giving you options as to which format you would like the disk to be formatted. Formatting the disk in NTFS format is advisable as this format is compatible with most software.

Once you have transferred this information you can now burn it to a clean disk of adequate size. A clean disk needs to be formatted before doing so. This means that the disk is prepared and is formatted to accept the information you are about to transfer. This can be likened to a vinyl recording where tracks or magnetic ridges were produced in so that information could be stored on them and used to play music recordings.

Once you have done this, insert an unformatted disk that you have purchased into your disk drive. A pop up window will appear asking you what you would like to do with the disk. By default your desktop computer should be set to bring up the formatting options window. Formatting a clean disk make take some time but should take no longer than five minutes. Once this has completed your computer will prompt you as to what you should do next.

The file that you have just saved can now be located where you stored it in the My Videos folder and burnt or copied to the formatted disk. This is a great way for instance should you have had a function such as wedding celebration, you can send copies out to your guests as a gesture of thanks for attending. This can be done relatively inexpensively should you be able to do this yourself.

Once the file has been saved in a video folder you have created, do the transfer to DVD. You do this by selecting copy to disk or burn to disk. The disk will automatically eject from the CD drive once complete. Label the disk with a black marking pen and retain it in the sleeve that it came in order so that it remains protected from scratching and other marks.
