What Makes Swedish Female Singer So Successful

By Shanna McNeil

The Swedish female singer has for a long while enjoyed greater notice on the global stage than the male counterpart. Even with a group like ABBA, that was made up of two men and two women, it often seemed like the women were apportioned more of the songs to sing and dominated in the music videos. Other singers like Robyn and Lykke Li have continued to capture the attention of many fans across the world.

One of the most common features shared by many of the top Swedish female singers must be their looks. Many have been blessed with the typical Scandinavian good looks characterized by blond blue eyed beauties. They are also mostly very physically fit. This may be due to the fact that the citizens of the country are often athletic in build. This comes from their enthusiasm for outdoor activities like hiking and swimming.

Another cultural aspect that may have helped push more Swedish female singers into the limelight must be gender parity. The country is well known for preaching and practicing the virtues of gender equality. This also applies when it comes to careers. The women are known to work very hard to compete effectively against their male companions. Whether they are married with kids or single, they maintain a strong work ethic and are positively supported by all their fans.

Their background has also allowed them to be comfortable in their appearance and abilities. They often carry the same confidence with them whenever they appear on a live stage. Many Swedish female singers take part in concert tours to promote their music and receive positive reviews from attendees.

While many of the most renowned musicians in the world make no secret of the wealth they accumulate, Swedish female singers do not seem to be quite as interested in the money. While it is important to make a success of their careers, making so much money that they will never be able to spend it in their lifetime does not seem to be a goal. Sweden is a socialist country and despite the wealth gained from harvesting natural resources, the people are humble and there is little difference in class.

The country's wealth trickles down to even the most downtrodden in society. The government in fact actively supports artists and pays them regular salaries and benefits to continue with their performances. Even without fame and fortune these singers can still look forward to earning a sufficient livelihood. Knowing that getting into a music career will definitely earn you money, whether you are commercially successful or not is a good incentive to try anyway.

There is also a strong representation of women in the more popular music genres like pop and rock. Other less popular genres like jazz do not produce as many successful musicians. Women have also managed to popularize genres like eclectic music.

The Swedish female singer does not only make the most of the opportunities handed to her by virtue of culture and state, but also works very hard to market herself. Whether it is by going on a world tour or working in collaboration with foreign bands, the more exposure they get, the greater the popularity of these women. Their music can be found in music stores across the world and featured in movies.
