The Profession Of An Art Therapist

An art therapist is an expert when it comes to art therapy. This individual uses creative procedure in boosting the physical mental and emotional well being of patients diverse in age. This person has a good mastery of psychology and human development and operates in his or her own clinic. The clients are of all genders, age groups, class, couples, singles, families and groups in general.

In most cases, this person works individually but in some instances, they can be two or three within the same clinic. This is highly dependable on the situation at hand. The expert uses nonverbal signs and similes articulated through painting and artistic practice. Through this program, the client begins to see the results of this psychotherapy and this is the point where conclusions start to be made.

Without any form of training, such achievements cannot be established. The person needs to have an in born passion and desire to use the skill of art in assisting others. Besides, a person who is not easily distracted and has an attitude of not making conclusions before completion of the entire exercise does qualify. These two form the basic human qualities for those with such a dream.

In the end of the entire exercise, there is relief to many people with disorders and mentally disturbed conditions due to home disputes, disagreements and tribulations. All these are resolved to boost the aptitude of individuals, arouse confidence and awareness in them as a means of attaining insight.

The expert has to use the three main components of this field which are human development, visual painting and the engagement of the mind in counseling and psychotherapy. He or she ends up treating various ailments such as anxiety, substance abuse and other addictions, depression, mental and emotional disorders, issues of relationships and family matters, domestic abuses, social and emotional problems, trauma and neurological problems.

In this job, just the use of paint or painting marks and a board or piece of paper is sufficient to create the magic. The incorporation of these two sufficiently provides the relief to all the tribulations mentioned. This is part of the job description where the individual has the capability of monitoring the patient and offering treatment as time goes on. For suitable results, the materials and methods employed should be appropriate in providing relief to the person in need.

As per the mandate and regulations of the professional body in this industry, the specialist is required to keep records in form of charts and regular reports as a way of monitoring progress in the therapy sessions for each client. This may be useful when called upon to witness, testify on behalf of the client in any given instance.

All in all, education is a must for an art therapist. The minimum qualification is the baccalaureate degree from a distinguished college in the US or abroad although; a masters in this field is the best option and advantageous. This one only requires two years to complete for those within the above mentioned class.
