Beginners Guide To Electric Guitar - Buying Guide

By Patrick Jules

When setting out to buy that first electric guitar, you need to know some things before you enter in to a world where all the confusion can make your head spin. There are electric guitars of all makes, models, and styles that are made for certain types of music, and then there is the price.

Make sure that when you go into a store you find a store that has a good reputation you may be able to determine this by the number of professional players you see there. In this type of store the staff works with you and do not try to get you to buy the priciest item there. If you are starting out, then there are excellent electric guitars made today that are affordable and sound very good. There is the temptation always that you go for the most beautiful one there, but it is always best to take things step-by-step and not too much too soon. Too many people give up trying to play because they try to go all the way to the top in one leap.

Do not be afraid to ask. First, find out about the electric guitar that you like, then, find out how it is made so that you can make an educated decision. There are many factors that go into the making of the instrument, for instance the wood used. The thickness and the density of the wood are crucial to the sound the guitar makes, because of the resonance it creates, so be sure to tell the sales person what kind of music you want play, as the wood used makes more of a difference than most people know.

Then, there is the make of the guitar and the model. There are Stratocasters and Les Pauls, there are telecasters and SG?s, and they are all used by different musicians form Jimi Hendrix to Bob Dylan, and Iron maiden to Eric Clapton. They all use different kinds of guitars to get the sound they like, and that is key when you are getting that first electric guitar ? find out what kind of sound you like and then find out what kind of guitar makes that sound, and then find out all about it.

Now, bit about the mechanics of the guitar ? the construction. There are dual pick-ups, Chromebuckers, Tremolo bars (Or whammy bars) that change the pitch or make that wobbling sound, and there are slant bridges and the placement of them, and there are single coil pick-ups, and on and on. There is such a wide variety of electric guitars, all mad with different kinds of woods and with different kinds of construction. This allows you to get a different treble or fuller bass sound.

It is best to find out how the guitar that you like is made, and then, when you think you have a fairly good grasp of the subject go to a good store and ask all the questions you want. .
