The Millennium has seen several new trends in latest Hindi films. Nowadays scripts are well-written, exploring political and social problems. Cinematography has gone through progressive changes with latest equipment and methods, which have helped directors in a big way.

Movie sound recording have changed drastically as western influences seep in through in all possible ways. Film directors try to attract audience with item songs even when the films don't have anything new to offer.

Another important change in films is the huge investment in promotion and advertising of the films. There are many opportunities as far as the movie industry is concerned, one reason why films are promoted so smartly. You can take Farhan Akhtar's first film Dil Chahta Hai for instance. It heralded a new period in Hindi film industry for youthful and entertaining movies, with all the typical song, dance and drama sequences in addition to the subtle sensibilities , which were given importance.

The Indian film industry consist of all kinds of films in addition to latest Bollywood movies. Art movies are changed in such a way that they suit the silver screen perfectly. Some genres which narrate real life occurrences as movie topics have become common, as seen in the movie City of Gold. Film directors experiment with various concepts and interpretations of reality. Most of the films are a depiction of and do not mirror real life, offering enough space for a creative portrayal of situations and people.

Popular new Hindi films are selecting foreign locations for shooting. Action films contain more breathtaking sequences and a smart packaging.

In the past, many actresses in movies were only featured as love interests and served as male lead's arm candies. Some popular films like The President is Coming and Fashion broke stereotypes by having only actresses in the main roles. Filmmakers are moving to the less explored genres like horror and making fascinating movies apart from the staple ghost movies. Newest Hindi movies like Raaz, 13B and Phoonk have proved that horror films can take the box office by storm.
