Contemporary Abstract Paintings As An Abstraction

By Lesa Parker

Contemporary abstract paintings had and still have a clear presence in fine art. It has been a part of the art periods since 1970. This is a clear indication that there will always be an artist or artists who would excel in this type of painting. Today and in future years it will maintain its name as it would still be happening in the present.

The difficulty of this type of painting (as it is not easy) lies in its preparation. This style of painting had its presence in past years, the now and will certainly be present in future years as well. Many people think that abstract is easy, but it takes a lot more than merely putting paint on a canvas. You need to have good instincts and insight to make it work.

The requirement for this painting type is a much more clearer visual picture than your realistic painting. Your interpretation has to evoke the idea, the emotion and the visual picture in the viewer. You, therefore, need a very strong story to tell so that it can appear in the visual you affect. This is what the artist in this instant would need to accomplish.

Most of the current style of paintings are also given to using mixed media which adds to the difficulty of getting the right message across. Choosing the right medium to illustrate the concept is vital. Right now mixed media and other means of expression is utilized making it contemporary. The future medium used, will make the art work relevant to the present then.

Many viewers would look at one of these art works and think that it is an easy task. However, fine art principles still apply. This is in effect what would determine whether the painting is a visually effective presentation. The subject matter is what is important and not so much the objects placed on the canvas.

What is placed on the canvas is as important as with any realistic painting. It is important to have the skills of drawing and painting to implement it in a painting. To be able to morph something, you need to know its real shape. This can only be effectively done if you have know your art principles and have some skills.

There is therefore some preparation involved in terms of your expertise. As an artist you may, however, also want to do get into the habit of keeping a journal, writing stories, doing research, keeping a visual diary and any other means of getting yourself prepared for this style of painting. It takes quite a lot more intellectual preparation than painting the portrait of a model.
