Ever since the first movie was released in 2003, Pirates of the Caribbean costumes have been familiar sights at parties. Johnny Depp and his costars created a colorful cast of characters that make great alter egos for anyone who wants to take a walk on the wild side during the Halloween season.
Jack Sparrow is the main character portrayed by Depp. His costume is a little bit pirate and a little bit rock and roll with shiny hair ornaments. Cropped pants stop below the knee and are worn with a loose white shirt with full sleeves. The long blue vest hangs to his thighs with a wide belt or fabric sash tied around the waist. His long hair is in braids with beads and metal charms and he wears a bandana wrapped around the hair. A battered tricorn hat completes this costume.
Hector Barbossa is Jack's nemesis throughout the first movie but the two become allies in later films. Actor Geoffrey Rush brings this character to life with baggy dark pants and a white shirt worn loose and open around the neck. The long gray jacket features black braid down the front and cuffs. The pants are tucked into tall black boots with wide cuffs. A bandolier across the chest and a large black hat with feathers add just the right touch.
The fourth movie introduces Angelica, the daughter of Blackbeard and a fierce pirate in her own right. Her outfit features tight black leggings, a white peasant style shirt with elastic around the neckline so it slides down onto the shoulders. A black corset goes over the blouse and a quilted jacket on top. Angelica tucks her leggings into high black boots with high heels. A black hat with a buckle stuck on the front and one long feather top off this costume.
Blackbeard is another new addition to the pirate clan and as the name suggests, his clothing is all black with the exception of his jacket, which is dark gray with black leather cuffs and lapels. The black shirt features ruffles arranged horizontally down the front. He wears black pants cropped to just above his boot tops. His right hand is a hook and his beard is full. This costume is complete with a black tricorn sporting a skull and crossbones buckle.
Captain Davy Jones is the main protagonist in the second film, Dead Man's Chest. He wears the standard pirate outfit with vest, long coat and boots but his clothes are tattered and torn. His left hand is a giant claw and his beard is sea snakes instead of hair.
Consumers can accessorize any of these costumes with the normal pirate accessories like a sword and gold jewelry, especially medallions hanging from long neck chains. A small stuffed monkey representing Barbossa's sidekick, makes the ideal prop.
