By Samuel Adam

The most famous vampire reappears every season on trick or treat night in the form of Count Dracula Halloween costumes. Probably the best known vampire of all time, this evil member of the walking dead has inspired numerous stories, films and other entertainment media. It is no surprise that Count Dracula Halloween costumes are as popular as they are today.

Vampire fangs are a standard prop for this famous Count. These may be inexpensive plastic versions that fit over your own teeth, more realistic and expensive molded styles or tooth implants. You might be surprised to learn there are people who have their own teeth filed into point or capped to create a permanent look of vampire fangs.

One prop you must have is a good supply of artificial blood. Smears of blood on your hands and face or dripping down your neck is required for Count Dracula Halloween costumes. Before splashing more blood on your clothing, read the label to be sure your vampire blood can be removed.

Count Dracula Halloween costumes can vary greatly, as there have been many interpretations of this ancient monster. Some take a more traditional approach, including dark cape and slick black hair. A little face paint can give you the perfect pallor, unless of course you have recently fed.

A more modern approach for this icon might consider what Count Dracula would be wearing today. He might have a hard time finding unsuspecting victims if he doesn't upgrade his wardrobe. Brainstorm and use your creativity to come up with an up to date vampire who could walk the streets without creating panic.

For a truly unique approach to Count Dracula Halloween costumes, create a character to hide the vampire. Is your vampire a banker when he isn't drinking blood? Might he be a member of the Goth scene? Does he wear leather and ride a motorcycle? It's your costume so you get to decide who the Count appears to be.

If you're aiming for a more traditional Count Dracula, complete with period style clothing, there are plenty of websites that can provide inspiration. The film Interview With the Vampire is another excellent source. As the movie progresses, you can see a slight change in the clothing styles. That is of course, if you're going for the Dracula of a century or more ago.

Though the dark cape and white gloves are always included in Count Dracula Halloween costumes, there are other accessories available. Remember how the vampire raises the edge of his cape to cover his face as he turns into a bat and flies away? Painting a bat image on the corner of his cloak will add a sinister touch to your costume. If you are not an artist you can find a bat image or template by searching the costume accessories for Batman costumes. Be creative!

Don't spend too much time shopping for accessories. Adding a personal unique twist to Count Dracula Halloween costumes is easy and fun to do. When you make your own accessories you can add your personality to the costume design. Create your own props from inexpensive crafting supplies or find things to use around your home. You are only limited by your imagination. Don't just dress up like the Count - become your own version of the evil vampire. Edited by Hetsil Protage
