FAQs About Casting Calls For Teenagers

By Dianne Crane

The following tips on casting calls for teenagers will hopefully help any teen trying to get a job. Often teens do not have as much experience as some who are older would have. Having some helpful information before they head into an audition is always useful.

Be wary of scam artists. If something does not feel right listen to your instinct and good judgment. If ever you are asked to sign something that feels wrong, do not sign. If ever you are asked to pay money for new pictures through a certain photographer or take lessons from a certain coach, walk away.

Look over anything that anyone asks you to sign. If it feels wrong or gives you pause, there is probably good reason. You most likely have good instincts and judgment. Do not get so carried away with getting the job that you throw your good sense away.

If you do not take the time to prepare ahead of time, they will not wait. Do not expect to be coddled or you will be disappointed. Do your homework, know your lines. Research the director and his or her preferences. When you do not bother doing this and another person does, you most often will find that the other person gets the job.

Teens also wonder what a good piece of advice they can have that will see them through. One great piece of advice is to remain professional. It does not matter that you are a teen, you are expected to behave like a professional adult. You are not there to make friends or hang out, you are there for work.

Take along a couple of head shot photographs and your resume. Your photos should be professionally done. This is not the area where you should try to save money. If one is determined to get into this business, the will have to have professional pictures and a good resume.

Be flexible and deal with whatever is thrown at you. At times you may be asked to change up the way you read something, or to even try reading for a different character, do it. Not only should you do it, but it should be done without complaint. Never ask for or expect a break. Keep working until you are told you are done.

Two final bits of advice for going on casting calls for teenagers is to do your best to relax and be confident. The process can be intimidating and at times overwhelming, however, remember that everyone else is feeling the same way. The more of these that you go on, the easier it will seem. Lastly, do not let yourself feel rejected if you are not given the role. No one can be right for everything. It is not personal.
