How difficult is it to Learn Violin?

By Elke Onon

After all is said and done " the Violin is just a musical instrument. One often gets put off by the thought that one has to be a musical genius in order to learn to play the violin " often YouTube videos of 3-4 year old geniuses playing the Violin extenuate these myths. In reality you do not have to be a musical genius to learn how to play the violin

From experience " to succeed with learning to play the Violin " you need to have a desire to play the instrument and also a teachable spirit to learn and become competent with the basic skills- If you have these qualities you stand a very good chance of succeeding in learning to play the violin. Like anything it will require regular practice.

Is this a race? Heck " No!! take your time " realise that everyone learns at a different pace. So if you happen to be blessed with a natural ability to play any kind of instrument and it takes you just a few days to get used to handling the Violin " great!! If you are not as gifted and it takes you longer " that is ok too as long as you are learning and enjoying yourself

Looking back, 20 + years ago, at what options were available to some wanting to learn to play the violin " this consisted of either " hiring a personal mentor or signing up to classes at a local music school.

I should add that these two options are absolutely fine " however for someone that for one reason or another could not go down either of these routes " I believe that they should still be able to enjoy learning the violin. The explosion of the internet and changed all of this " today you can now access online violin courses on the internet from the comfort of your home.

Today you can sign up for these violin classes online from the comfort of your home. In some cases " you can even trial part of the course for free before paying for the rest of the course.

Excellent for a lot of people that just want to learn the instrument form the comfort of their home without stress.

A possible downside may be the fact that you may not be able to interact with other students at the same skills level as you- for some people this may be an issue " but fir the majority of people the idea of learning for home is quite enticing

So if you fit the category above then I suggest you sign up for online violin classes to start of with, down the road if your finances and time permit then you can look for a music school to enrol in.

By so doing " you should be in a position to cope adequately with whatever the teacher in the class throws at you to learn playing the violin.

Do your best to buy a couple of excellent books that teach on learning to play the violin. Do not buy sheet music at this point regardless of how tempting it may be " as your primary goal at this point is to be comfortable at handling your violin and building on your technique.
