2 Chainz Bio

By C. Wade

Tauheed Epps generally known as 2 Chainz was born on Sept. 12, 1977 in College Park, GA. He attended North Clayton Senior High School graduating at the top of his class. He advanced to play college b-ball at Alabama St. University.

In 1997, 2 Chainz, whom during the time went under the stage name Tity Boi made the southern hip hop group Playaz Circle with high school buddy Dolla Boy (Earl Conyers). The duo developed a business connection with, at the time DJ, Ludacris (who eventually ended up being among the highest selling rappers in southern hip hop.) The group recorded several songs with Ludacris who would spin them on his radio station. When Ludacris' fame began to lift off, he signed Playaz Circle to his label Disturbing Tha Peace.

Tity Boi left Disturbing Tha Peace in 2010, and in at the beginning of the year 2011 changed his name to 2 Chainz following criticism throughout his whole career that his name was meant to be derogatory toward women. He believed 2 Chainz could be thought of as a more family friendly name and proceeded to put out a solo mixtape the same year.

Since leaving Disturbing Tha Peace, 2 Chainz has released a solo studio album, Based on a T.R.U. Story, under the Def Jam Record label. His 1st solo album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200. 2 Chainz has additionally been included on several songs by the hottest hip hop and southern hip hop music artists of the moment like Lil Wayne, Drake, Kanye West, Pusha T, Nicki Minaj and even Big Sean, to name a few.

2 Chainz is scheduled to put out his 2nd album in 2013.

With 4 BET Hip Hop Awards, a Soul Train Award, together with three Grammy nominations this year, 2 Chainz is without question among the most popular southern hip hop artists of the moment.
