Synthetic Grass And All Its Glory

By Kathryn Neal

Synthetic grass, also known as artificial grass, can be seen in cities, suburbs, and even in the countryside. It is used in many different ways and for many different reasons. Here is a quick overview of the pros, cons, and usage of this astroturf.

Sport pitches in the western world are usually covered by this astroturf. It has been said that because there is the rubber infill underneath, it helps prevent athletes from getting injured. It is also commonly used on golf and putting greens. These can be custom made, and there is even an option to have portable mats, making it easier to practice wherever one is.

For families, having this on the playground is a lifesaver. Rather than the kids falling on the gravel or sand where they are more prone to get cuts and scratches, this gives them more cushion for their fall. There are no stains that need to be dealt with later, nor are there any allergies that the kids have to worry about. This can be seen around merry-go-rounds and other playground equipment.

Those that live in a bustling city but have space on their patio, decks, or roofs; this might be a way to reconnect with nature. Even though this is not the natural grass, it can still give a sense of flora to the otherwise dreary and cement environment. This could help transform the gray space into a green gathering space where one can add a rooftop garden or invite friends and family for a great view of the city while standing barefoot.

The main reason people go this route is that it is a lot less hassle than regular grass. There is no need to mow the lawn every week or have to worry about spraying pesticide or other chemicals. This is laid once and then never dealt with again, well at least not for awhile. It constantly looks immaculate and there is not need to fill in holes or worry about allergies. And for those that are used to watering their lawn, this is a great way to cut down on the water bill.

But, like most things, there is a negative side to this option. For many people, the arrival of summer is known by the sound of people laughing, birds chirping, and most importantly, the smell of fresh cut grass.

Even though this astroturf will potentially last a very long time, the initial upfront cost is an expensive one and should not be taken lightly. This surface also absorbs a lot of heat, making it extremely hot to play on when the temperature is toasty. There is also the debate about what harmful chemicals may actually be in the shredded rubber that is bad for our health.

Synthetic grass is a good option for those that like to have a beautiful lawn twenty-four seven, and do not have time to maintain a regular lawn. It is also a safe option for kids as well as athletes in many ways. But there are issues that can come with this option. The wallet will be a little thinner, and there are chemicals that could be potentially dangerous to ones health.
