All about MIDI Controllers

By Lauren Black

The devices and equipments that have been used in the area of music and sound have had a surge in the last couple of decades due to the electronic and digital instruments. The managing and exchange of data and tracks has become a need for any artist or user in the music technology field.A number of ensembles are thus made to be used for data exchange.MIDI controllers are these types of devices that are used by artists all over the globe for MIDI data exchange.

These are basically used to send or receive the date from the devices in which MIDI is enabled. In a more technical sense, it is a device used to operate MIDI date sources and receive or send data to other digital instruments.MIDI controllers are made to be operated with a certain group of instruments which are then attached to the controllers and are then used through the controllers themselves.MIDI controllers are of many different types like synthesizers, integrated panels and digital musical instruments.

There are some MIDI controllers like the M-Audio AXIOM 25 which come with around 25 piano like keys so that it helps the user playing the sounds while operating the controller itself. There is no need for a secondary keyboard or a synthesizer in these cases then as it comes prepared. The controllers also have 4-5 MIDI channels so that various other MIDI cables can be fitted in and the number of equipments can be increased for further work. The M-Audio AXIOM 25 also comes with around 8 integrated drum pads to be assigned different sounds while playing leading to an out of thw world piano and drum experience together.

They are very small in size and still provide a large number of options to make music easily. They have dedicated encoders that are assigned specific tracks on the channel and come with at least 6 controls on their panels. There are knobs that help to increase or decrease the octave, treble, bass and transpose.Buttons that help in switching the track, moving inside the track bank and playing a solo track are also put up on the panel board. Moreover they are built to be compatible with all of the latest Windows and Mac versions on the computer.

Due to their small and compact size and the varied options of working, they are a great help to the user and are a compulsion in the kit. These MIDI controllers thus turn out to be the best means for MIDI data exchange and more and more artists resort to them.
