How To Take And Edit Family Video

By Hope Calhoun

Not long ago, it took a huge camcorder and bulky VHS tapes to record and watch family video clips. These days, there are new formats for taking and editing videos, which could be easier, or more complicated than before. It is possible to edit videos at home and create copies that can be emailed or burned onto DVDs for relatives to enjoy.

Similar to digital cameras, there is no need to use film or tapes in a digital camcorder. The footage is stored in a digital memory card. Many regular digital cameras can record videos, but will not be able to hold hours of videos or record high quality footage like a real digital camcorder.

Once the videos have been recorded, the memory card is removed from the camcorder and into a computer. The files could be merged, split, and edited with special effects. Trim footage that is not needed and adjust the volume on parts ht are either too loud or soft. It is also possible to add sound effects and music to enhance the experience.

When the videos have been edited, they can then be transferred to a recordable DVD or a Blu-Ray disc. It only takes a few minutes to burn most videos. The burned discs will work in most players and can be shown on a television screen. While the footage is still in the memory card, it is placed into a camcorder hooked up to a television with an AV cable for instant viewing.

Sharing videos on the internet can be unsafe, so set them to private when shared on websites if you are concerned. Be careful when sharing on social networking websites. In most cases, it is safest to just email videos to relatives.

Recording and remastering family video helps make memories last forever. Modern camcorders make it easy to record anywhere, at any time. Editing and transferring to discs makes it now possible for everyone to enjoy the moment over and over again.
